Updates from the Recovery Unit

November 14 2021

Jacob checked back into the hospital on Monday for another round of chemotherapy. Things got off to a bit of a rough start when he spent the night hallucinating and trying to get up and walk around in the middle of the night. He was convinced he was in other worldly environments with wars and special effects.

He was very disoriented to time and place. This continued through the beginning of the day today, as they tried to figure out which medications might be causing these side effects (including nystagmus), his mom finally figured out what it might be and fortunately the docs listened and pulled him off of that and things seem to be settling in a bit more now. He’s also got a headache over his eye on the surgery side so they are keeping an eye on that.

They gave him the chemo meds last night and he’s not been wanting to eat or drink since, which has been affecting his electrolytes (and probably contributing to his disorientation). This afternoon seemed to go a bit better than last night and this morning and we’re hopeful that there will be no further complications during this round of chemo.

We did just get news that he will be in the hospital for further rounds of chemo during both Christmas and New Year’s though, so I’m thinking of making up a holiday care package to make the hospital stay a bit cheerier. Let me know if you’d like to add a note/card/gift card to the care package!

Thank you all so much for the love, support and prayers in behalf of Jacob and his family. We all appreciate it so very much.
